Biometrics inside Canada at Service Canada Office

Biometrics

Giving your Biometrics is simple and safe. It makes travel easier while keeping Canada safe.

As of December 3, 2019, you need to give your fingerprints and photo (biometrics) if you’re applying within Canada as a:

  • foreign worker
  • international student
  • visa-required visitor
  • permanent resident

This includes extending your study or work permit or visitor status in Canada.

After applying and receiving a biometrics submission letter, you can go to one of these official locations to give your biometrics:

  • visa application centres (VACs) worldwide
  • application support centers (ASCs) in the United States and its territories
  • as of December 3, 2019, at designated Service Canada offices (SCOs)
Making travel easier while keeping Canada safe.

Before you go, you need to make an appointment to give your biometrics.

If you gave biometrics in the past as part of an application for a visitor visa, work or study permit and they’re still valid, you don’t need to give them again. You only need to give your biometrics once every 10 years.
